There are almost an endless amount of air pollutants plaguing our enviroment. Here we will take a look at some of said pollutants' sources.
One of the most prominent and well known causes for pollution are automobiles. More Specifically, automobiles using combustion engines burning gasoline and releasing harmful gases into the air such as:nitrogen oxides, gaseous hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, (as well as traces of lead) into the atmosphere. In addition to this, nitrogen oxides comine with hydrocarbons to form photochemical oxidants, another class of pollutant (done in the presence of sunlight). If that was not enough, nitrogen oxides combine themselves with oxygen, to for nitrogen dioxide, an example of this is the smog lingering above los angeles.
